FAQ

Questions, answered.

Cost, fuel, clearances, permits, safety and what to expect. If your question is not here, call or text and we will answer it.

How much does a fire pit cost?

Commonly published planning ranges put a professionally built wood-burning stone pit at roughly $1,500 to $6,000, a gas fire pit with a new gas line at about $3,000 to $10,000 and a full fire pit patio with seating at $8,000 to $25,000 or more. Size, materials, gas run, access and permits move the number, so a free visit and a written estimate are the only way to get your real price.

Is wood or gas better for a fire pit?

Wood gives the crackle, the smell and the most radiant heat. Gas gives instant flames, no smoke and almost no cleanup, and it suits patios near the house and neighborhoods with burn restrictions. Try both in the Fire Pit Builder, then we can talk through your yard and your habits.

How far should a fire pit be from the house?

Guidance commonly runs 10 to 25 feet from structures for wood pits, less for some listed gas units, plus clear space overhead. We follow the manufacturer's listing, local code and any HOA limits, and we mark clearances on site before anything is built.

Do I need a permit for a fire pit or fireplace?

Gas lines, masonry fireplaces and permanent structures often do, and many HOAs require approval. We check the rules for your city first and prepare the drawings and paperwork where they are needed.

How long does a fire pit take to build?

A simple pit can be finished in a few days. Gas pits with a new line usually take one to two weeks, and fireplaces or full patios run three to eight weeks or more, depending on permits and weather. We give you a schedule with the estimate.

Can you convert my wood fire pit to gas?

Often yes, if the pit is deep enough and the liner is sound. We assess it, run the gas line, install a burner and media and keep the stonework you already have.

Is a gas fire pit safe?

A properly installed gas fire pit has an accessible shutoff, flame supervision and tested connections, and it burns without sparks. We install to local code, teach you the shutoffs and offer yearly safety inspections.

Should I choose natural gas or propane?

Natural gas is cheaper to run but needs a line from your meter. Propane works anywhere, with a concealed or buried tank, and burns a little taller. We help you choose based on where gas is available and how often you will burn.

Can you work on a fire pit someone else built?

Yes. We repair, convert and refresh features we did not build, and we tell you honestly what is worth saving and what is better rebuilt.

Do you build outdoor kitchens, pergolas and patios too?

Yes. Many fire projects grow into full outdoor rooms with seating, kitchens, pergolas, lighting and hardscape, and we design them together so everything fits.
