What it is, and why it works.
A sunken fire lounge turns the fire into a room. A few steps down from the patio, a circle of built-in benches faces a central pit, and the walls around you shut out wind and noise while the flame lights every face. It is the most social way to build a fire feature, and it makes a flat yard feel designed.
Because the pit lives below grade, drainage and structure matter most. We excavate, build retaining walls, set drains so rain never pools and plan the fuel lines, then add benches, steps and lighting. In Nashville, where heavy summer storms test any low spot, a well-drained sunken lounge is as practical as it is dramatic.

Sunken Fire Lounges: common questions
Will a sunken pit flood when it rains?
Not if it is drained properly. We build in drains and grading and often a sump, and we plan where the water goes before the first shovel of dirt moves.
Is a sunken fire pit safe for kids?
It has steps and a low wall, so we add handrails, step lighting and a fire guard if young children will be around.
