What it is, and why it works.
A seat wall wraps the fire in permanent seating that looks as good empty as it does full. Stone veneer, stacked block or poured concrete creates a low wall at bench height, topped with a wide cap that is comfortable for hours. It also frames the patio, hides slopes and defines edges.
The height, depth and curve decide how it feels to sit there, so we mock up layouts and set caps at comfortable proportions. We build footings, drain behind taller walls and add under-cap lighting if you want it. For Nashville lots with slopes, a seat wall often doubles as a retaining wall, solving two problems in one structure.

Seat Walls & Seating: common questions
How tall should a seat wall be?
Most are 16 to 20 inches to the top of the cap, which suits sitting. If it also retains soil, height may be set by the grade and engineering.
Do I need cushions?
Stone and concrete get hot or cold with the weather, so cushions make long evenings more comfortable. We can size caps to fit standard cushions.
