Fireplace Hearths, Mantels & Surrounds
Stone hearths, timber and stone mantels, wood niches and custom surrounds that refresh an existing fireplace or complete a new one.
- Materials: Stone, brick, tile, timber
- Hearth depth: 16 to 24 in typical
- Mantels: Timber or cut stone
What it is, and why it works.
The mantel, the hearth and the surround are what people see and touch. A raised stone hearth makes a bench, a heavy timber mantel gives a place for lanterns and a stacked-stone surround ties the fireplace to the patio. Good details turn a plain firebox into the room's centerpiece.
We build and refresh hearths and surrounds on new and existing fireplaces: new faces over tired brick, hearth extensions for safety, wood storage niches and custom mantels in cedar, reclaimed oak or stone. Many Nashville homes have older fireplaces that only need a new face and hearth to feel like new, and we always check heat clearances before we change anything.

Hearths & Mantels: common questions
Can you resurface the face of my old fireplace?
Usually, yes, provided the structure is sound. We repair it first and then apply stone or brick veneer or a new surround.
How deep should a hearth be?
Codes and manufacturers set minimum hearth extensions in front of the firebox. We follow them and often go deeper so the hearth doubles as seating.
